Inspiration: Got some?

I need some inspiration.

I’m feeling stuck in a rut.

In my life and in my writing.

I just feel like every day brings the exact same thing. Which does have a positive side, yes, I know this.

But the negative side is that EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. looks just like the one before and I start getting bored. And when I’m bored, I don’t do things to make myself un-bored. I sink in it. I don’t clean. I don’t plan good dinners. I stay home.

I think this is why I always worked 25-30 hours a week after I had the girls. I just didn’t know what I’d do with myself if I stayed at home with them. Work left me with just enough variety that it kept me on my toes at home also.

And the last month has not been kind. Our oven, dishwasher and dryer have broken. And Lucas has been a sick mess. (Hopefully on the mend now with a dose of antibiotics.)

I need a spark.

Something that will get my head back in the game. (You know, like in High School Musical.)

I’m not sure what that is, but I think it’s around the corner. I feel my heart being pulled back to urban ministry. Maybe it’s that? Or maybe it’s being on my new FAVORITE show Smash. You know, whatever works.

Wanna help? Tell me what gives you a spark in times like this. At least let me live through your spark if I can’t find my own.

(Excuse me now while I pick up the raisins Lucas just poured out of his bowl onto the couch.)

I would love to hear more about your urban ministry ideas! Im really enjoying Phil’s class on Sunday. I also have an idea of something you might be interested in….I’ll leave you in suspense!
Whenever Im stuck, I create something. Sometimes its as simple as a new recipe, re-arranging something in my house. Sometimes I go into the basement and look for something to repurpose. The challenge of it is fun.
    And Pinterest is inspiring too!
We were made to create, dont you think?

yep, I agree. I do feel like it helps, though I struggle with “creating” or cleaning, since I often feel like creating something is lazy and that I’m not keeping things going in my home well enough. ya know?

I do know! Its hard to push away the everyday tasks in order to create. Constant struggle for me. Sometimes I can combine the two though. Like clear out and organize the bathroom cupboard….leaves me with a sense of accomplishment, efficiency, and serves my fam. Not as beautiful as a new pillow, but still beautiful:)

I’m with Jennie. Creating helps me get out of a rut. Whether it’s a knitted washcloth or a new space in my home, something about that change or new “life” that comes forth can be like a breath of fresh air.

  3. I don’t have any inspiration, but I know what helps me when I get in a funk is to take the attention off myself by focusing on someone else. Take a meal to a friend who has had a worse week than you. Take your kids to go do some random acts of kindness. Write a note to someone who is sick or struggling. Call a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile and see how she’s doing. Anything to take your focus off yourself. It energizes me, and then I am better able to tackle the tasks in front of me.

Gratitude helps me, too. Every day in 2012 my closest girlfriend and I have been texting each other a photo of something we’re thankful for. It provides accountability and forces me to find something I’m thankful for even on the most mundane or miserable days. Sometimes it forces me to manufacture a situation to be thankful for . . . like I’m thankful that my daughter had a blast when I pulled out the fingerpaints, which I never would have pulled out if I hadn’t been trying to come up with SOMETHING to enjoy today. 🙂
